Project Overview
Served as the Field Team Lead for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) conducted for a proposed lithium mining project in Kuriga, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State. The assessment evaluated the environmental and socio-economic implications of mining activities to support regulatory compliance and sustainable project development.
My Role
- Led the environmental field assessment team
- Coordinated environmental data collection and stakeholder engagement
- Supervised sampling activities and ensured adherence to environmental standards
- Contributed to the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment report
Scope of Work
- Surface and groundwater quality assessment
- Air quality and ambient noise monitoring
- Biodiversity assessment, including vegetation and ecosystem evaluation
- Community perception surveys covering social, economic, and public health impacts
- Occupational health assessment of mine workers
- Evaluation of gangue material disposal and its potential effects on soil and groundwater quality
- Assessment of environmental impacts associated with blasting and explosive usage
Project Outcome
The assessment identified key environmental and social risks associated with the proposed mining operation and recommended practical mitigation measures, environmental monitoring programmes, and community engagement strategies to ensure compliance with national environmental regulations and international best practices.
